September 2018 Newsletter

Our August meeting was a club day with all that happens on these occasions. With a chance to see what some of us do on our lathes and free to ask whatever questions you like, you might not get an answer but ask anyway, it was a day to relax and enjoy.

Chris Withall was busy making pots while Keith Leonard was making bird house hanging decorations. Geoff Horsfield was making tea light holders and Paul Hunt was on the big lathe doing what Paul does best, big things out of big lumps of wood. A few photos of the day follow this. We were to have had a speed turning competition in the afternoon but as so few came back after lunch, yours truly being one of them I’m afraid, the competition was cancelled and everything was packed up by around three pm.

Our next meeting is on Saturday 8th September. We were to have had Mark Baker but due to personal problems he is unable to come to us so Matthew has persuaded Tony Handford to join us for the day. As I think we all know by now Tony always comes up with an interesting and often artistic couple of pieces from logs we would probably think impossible to work with. Want to know more? Come along and see what he has in store for us this time, and don’t worry, he will still come along to our November meeting as well.

Also Dawn will still be wanting to see more possible entries for SAW so keep turning until you have that special piece for us to show.

Graham
